Rare, Vintage Gladding, McBean VaseDescription and Item Information
Up for sale is this vintage Gladding, McBean semi-porcelain medfly vase. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This pottery vase stands approximately 13 1/2 inches tall, and it has a maximum width of about 8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 4 pounds 14.1 ounces. This desirable design is called a "medfly" or "moth" vase by GMcB collectors. This semi-porcelain example has a glossy pink glaze which has subtle mottling. This pot would be a great addition to a collection of vintage California pottery.
Identification
This pot is vintage Gladding, McBean pottery from California. This shape is shown on page 67 of James Elliot-Bishop's book entitled Franciscan, Catalina, and Other Gladding, McBean Wares; the reference is from a 1932 catalog. The age of this example is not known. There are numerical markings beneath, as shown. This shape was also produced in the terracotta clay body, but this example is semi-porcelain.
Condition
The vase looks good overall, but is not in perfect condition. There is a vertical hairline crack from the rim downward, which is about 3 inches long (two views shown in Photos 6 and 7). There are a couple of glaze flakes along this crack. There also is a very fine hairline to the base, which is about 1 1/2 inches long (see Photo 8). The vase has fine, unstained crazing. There is wear beneath.The interior has minor soiling, as found. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.
Terms of Sale
1. Sales Tax
Before merchandise is shipped to a California address (or picked up or delivered within California), sales tax will be collected, unless the buyer provides a properly completed and valid California resale certificate form by mail (or in person, in the case of pick up or delivery). No exceptions. Sales tax may apply for merchandise shipped outside of California.
2. Payments
The buyer must prepay before merchandise is released. The correct shipping address must be included with payment. Contact the seller in advance of bidding or buying to find out about accepted payment methods for local pick ups or deliveries. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made.
3. Shipping and Handling
Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller typically ships on Mondays and Thursdays, unless a holiday or special circumstance precludes it. The merchandise will be shipped on the seller's next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier.
Economy shipping within the U.S. includes delivery to a physical address via an economy shipping method of the seller's choice. At the discretion of the seller, a faster shipping method may be utilized at no additional cost to the buyer. If the buyer prefers a different shipping method other than that chosen by the seller, or if delivery is to a post office box, additional shipping and handling costs may be required. For domestic parcels, a signature will be required for delivery if the total payment is 0 or greater; at the discretion of the seller, a signature may be required for delivery if the total payment is less than 0.
If international shipping is available, this will be indicated on the "Shipping and Payments" tab. Shipping quotes must be requested prior to all international bidding or buying. The seller will determine the international shipping method(s). Some merchandise may be too large to be shipped to certain countries. Some countries have restrictions or prohibitions on certain classes of merchandise. The seller will only use legal shipping methods. Customs forms will not be falsified.
International buyers, please note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when the item is picked up; do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. The seller does not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as gifts. U.S. and international government regulations prohibit such behavior.
4. Other Information
The seller makes every attempt to provide an accurate description and photos. Individual computers may display colors differently. The images and descriptions on this page may not be used without the express permission of the seller. All merchandise is sold "as is where is." The buyer agrees to indemnify and hold the seller harmless from and against any and all liabilities and expenses, of whatever kind or nature, arising from or related to the use, misuse, resale, or redistribution of the merchandise. A person under the age of 18 must not bid or buy without the consent of their legal guardian.
